Swerve Sweetener: A new Contender of future Sugar!!!
Swerve sweetener is the newest type of low-calorie sweetener, according to the Company Swerve, it’s been claimed as the ultimate Sugar replacement present at the moment in the market. In this article, we highlight some of the key points about Swerve Sweetener Claim, which makes it fit replacement for refined sugar.
It does not contain calories or net carbs and doesn’t raise your blood sugar levels, which makes it quite ideal for health and diet-conscious people as the majority of medical conditions like Diabetes, Heart Disease, Obesity, and fatty liver disease are posed because of extra sugar in your diet. Plus, it’s a certified non-GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) product.
Swerve Sweetener Tastes and weighs just like regular refined sugar, in comparison to stevia and monk fruit sweetener which have their distinctive flavor and give an after taste. This is mostly found to be the reason why people have disliked the change in flavor and even have to adapt to the taste as it’s not up to their regular comfort taste. It is available in granular form, in individual packets, and in confectioners used sugar forms.
Unlike other natural sweeteners like monk fruit sweetener and stevia, Swerve bakes well, caramelizes, and holds its shape like sugar as well. This removes the most common issue of change in recipes sugar quantities, its taste, shape, texture, and other organoleptic features when refined sugar is replaced with any other sugar alternative or Sweetener.
Other artificial sweeteners like saccharin, aspartame, and sucralose, Swerve Sweetener is made from natural ingredients, and all processing ingredients required are sourced from the France and United State.
Swerve Sweetener is composed of 3 ingredients: Erythritol, oligosaccharides, and natural flavor (like citric acid).
Erythritol
It is sugar alcohol also known as polyols like xylitol, sorbitol, and mannitol. Erythritol is also naturally found in some fruits and vegetables like grapes, melons, and asparagus. However, erythritol in Swerve sweetener is made by fermenting glucose from non-GMO corn with Moniliella pollinis, a natural microorganism (yeast-like Fungus). Erythritol consists of 70-80% of the sweetness of sugar, with only 0.2 grams calories per kg body weight when compared to regular sugar which has 4 calories per kg body weight.
Unlike other polyols erythritol exhibits unique properties of maintaining high digestive tolerance and zero calories, it’s been rapidly absorbed by the small intestine and rapidly discarded by the body within 24 hours, which results in the reduction of laxative effects caused by the consumption of polyols. Also, erythritol is safe for pets as it does not cause toxicity to dogs, which holds a greater value of relief for people living with pets. Erythritol is been classified by FDA (Food and Drug Administration) as a zero-calorie sweetener that does not affect blood glucose levels.
Oligosaccharides
These are sweet-tasting carbohydrates composed of shorter chains of sugars found naturally in fruits and starchy vegetables. The oligosaccharides present in Swerve Sweetener are created by adding enzymes to starchy root vegetables, while the company does not reveal which vegetables or enzymes particularly are used in this process. Oligosaccharides consist of simple sugars fructose or galactose, but it’s unknown which of these types are present in Swerve Sweetener. Oligosaccharides are non- digestive prebiotic fibers, as they cannot be broken down by the human digestive tract, hence considered calorie-free, and they can help stimulate healthy gut bacteria.
Natural Flavours
The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) defines natural flavors as substances extracted from animal parts and edible plants, as well as those produced using enzymes and yeast. The majority of natural flavors are created by food chemists in laboratories using natural sources. As per the Swerve website, the sweetener consists of a little natural flavor from citrus and contains no animal-based products.
